The vibrant spirit of Suzanne Eyers, aged 78, left us suddenly on October 9th.

Suzanne was born in 1941 in Wells, B.C. to Michel and Dorothy Le Saunier. At a young age, Suzanne lived a life of travel, living in Metz, France and Baden-Baden, Germany, while her Father worked for NATO. Many years of private schools in France and England strengthened Suzanne’s determination and resiliency, building a level of perseverance that would accompany her in later years.

Returning to Canada in 1953, she settled in Vancouver with her Mother. Suzanne’s Mom became ill and at the age of 16, she quit school in order to financially support the two of them. Never letting grass grow beneath her feet, she travelled the world while working at United Airlines. Her fiercely independent spirit prevailed and she visited many destinations such as India, Jordan and Egypt.

Suzanne was a dedicated mother, wife and Grandmére with strong family values, devoting endless time to her two daughters and four grandchildren.  Suzanne continued to share her love of travel with family and friends. Suzanne was an incredible host. She loved to cook and entertain, she was a great conversationalist, and well educated about the world. She was gracious and selfless. Any spare time she had was spent as an accomplished seamstress or in her garden, which was her pride and joy.

Her life was forever impacted when she took a ‘once in a lifetime trip’ to volunteer in a small village in Ghana.  Over the next 12 years, she would oversee the sponsorship of more than 400 children providing them the opportunity to attend school and acquire an education. She was known as Nana Suzanne and her legacy in Ghana continues with the many lives she has touched.

Suzanne lived a full and rich life surrounded by her cherished friends and awesome family. Remaining to honour and forever remember her are daughters Nicole (Rob) and Danielle (Bill) and her fabulous grandchildren, Liam, Beckham, Taylor and Davin; family and friends in Canada and France and all her sponsored students in Ghana.  She is predeceased by her Father, Michel Le Saunier, her Mother, Dorothy Le Saunier and her second husband, James Eyers.

As Suzanne would say, ‘There go I, but for the grace of God’.

Funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 25th at 11am at St. Joseph Church in Langley.

In lieu of flowers, donations are kindly accepted in her name, to her charity, Foundation for African Children Education (FACE) at www.faceforafrica.com or to Canada Diabetes at www.diabetes.ca. View Tribute Book.

My condolences to Nicole and Danielle and their families on the passing of their mother and nana. Suzanne was a long-time friend of the Hennan family through her friendship with, and loving care of our mother, Stella. Suzanne was selfless; her generous spirit was an inspiration to be better versions of ourselves. I will miss her. I will miss knowing that she is out there courageously helping the people of Ejura. She has left a profound legacy.
