WILFRIED HERMANN SCHNABEL, aged 92, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2022.  He is predeceased by brothers Hans and Immo and his sister Dietel.  Wilf was born in Oborniki, Germany (now part of Poland) on July 14th, 1930.  His family fled to the West at the end of the Second World War.  Wilf settled in Augsburg, where he worked as a stonemason.  He emigrated to Saskatchewan in the early 1950s and then to Langley.  He married Ida Metcalfe in 1957 and helped raise her two children, Terry and Carol.  He was a fine craftsman and made many renovations to their home.  He worked as a carpenter and retired in 1995.  Ida and Wilf enjoyed travelling and made many trips to Europe, as well as the USA and Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.  He enjoyed the visits of his many nieces and nephews, bringing out the “toys” for them. Ida died in 2013.  Wilf married Gertrud Wagner in 2017.  Wilf was always young – he never let age or broken bones stop him from going onto the roof or trimming trees.  A Celebration of Life will be held at Aldergrove Legion Hall 26607 Fraser Highway Aldergrove, bc at 2:00 on Thursday, July 14, 2022 – which would have been his 92nd birthday.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Museum of Flight in Langley. Dear Terry, Carol and Gerti,

My condolences to each of you on Wilf's passing. I was very happy to have met him again on the occaision of the 70th birthday party for you, Terry, and for Doreen and Garry in 2014. It was wonderful to reminisce with him about how he and Ida welcomed all your friends to their home at any (late) hour of the eveming. And there was always food for us! And, oh yes, wrestling on tv!

We may have met that evening in 2014, Gerti. Forgive me for not remembering well as there were so many people whom I met for the first time and so many others I had not seen for decades.

May the sadness of loss be softened by knowing that Wilf led a full life and that his kindness to others will be rewarded by the Good Lord.
