After successfully avoiding Covid-19 by self isolating for 16 months and getting both vaccinations, our loving Mum, Grandma, Great Grandma, Aunt and friend finally succumbed to the heat in June. She was predeceased by Eddie, her loving husband of 33 years as well as her parents, Walter and Bertha Smith, and her seven siblings.

She will be sorely missed by her three children; Donna (Lyle), Gail (Bill), and Gary (Valerie), her six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

The third in a family of 8 she was born in Aulac, New Brunswick in the middle of a snowstorm and delivered by her father. Her early childhood was spent in and around what is now known as Fort Beausejour in New Brunswick. At age 12 the family moved to a farm in Halfway River, Nova Scotia where she spent her teen age years. She and her sister alternated between school and home and finished grade 11. She worked as caretaker at Mount Allison University in Sackville N.B. She accompanied friends on their honeymoon to Saskatchewan where she met and married Eddie. In 1946 the family moved to White Rock B.C., then to Burnaby and finally to Surrey. She spent the final 27 years among her many friends at Windsor Place condo in Cloverdale.

A memorial service for her family and close friends will be held at her request in the Sharon Chapel at the United Churches of Langley.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation or charity of your choice. View Tribute Book.

My condolences to Elfreda’s family. I met her several years ago, as my parents, Isabel and Joe live in her building. Elfreda hugged me a few times, she gave the BEST hugs! She had a positive energy we were drawn to. I admired her strength and independence. I hope the pain of losing her is somewhat weakened as you realize the legacy you are part of. With loving thoughts, Paige Charron

I spoke to Aunt Freda on her 106th birthday. I was amazed at her recall of our time spent together both here in NS and in BC. I am sorry to read this having tried to reach her today. God bless her beautiful soul. Sharon and Ray (Gladys daughter)

Deepest sympathy to family and friends of Auntie. She will be terribly missed, we cherished our time with her and have many great memories. She had a sparkle to her personality and a real love of life. She was so appreciative of anything you did for her and had a positive attitude. Love you Auntie, until we meet again, love you to the moon and back. All the Connellan's .
