Mr. Walter Herb, late of Surrey, BC, passed away on March 24, 2017 at the age of 97 at Surrey Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Martha; children Trudi (Ewald), Maria (Adolf), Ronald (Teresa), John (Rosanne); grandchildren, Alexandra (Jeff), Mathias (Lisa), Lisa, Ryan, Kristen (Bruce), Jonathan, Andrew, Laura, Michael, David (Melissa) and Sarah; great-grandchildren Matthew, Mariko, and Makaio. We lost an incredible husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. "Opa" was well loved, exceptionally perseverant, had a great sense of humour and a kind word and smile for all. He engrained his values of support and loyalty into his family. Nothing mattered more than his family. He was dedicated to "Oma" and was so proud of all their children and grandchildren. He loved playing crib and going fishing at Loon Lake and was keenly interested in everything going on with his family and all their adventures. He will be greatly missed and remembered by all who knew him. A special thank you goes out to the very caring staff at Elim Village and to his physician of many years, Dr. Howard Tang. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Evangelist Chapel at the Gardens of Gethsemani 15694 - 32nd Avenue, Surrey. Reception to follow at Elim Village in the Oasis Building Upper Lounge, 9008 - 158th Street at 1:00 p.m. View Tribute Book.

Condolences again to all the family on the passing of your father, Opa, and great-Opa. He was a special man, and will be missed by many. It was a pleasure to have gotten to know him while he lived here at the Emerald, and it will continue to be an honour to take care of your Mom/Oma. May the Lord be with you all as you travel this difficult journey.
Blessings,
Lisa (one of the "little one's", as he would like to say)

Opa meant a lot to me. He was always very supportive of everything John and I did. He accepted me into his family right away and was always gracious and generous with his time and hospitality. I will miss hearing his funny stories and seeing his smiling face and kind eyes. He was like a cat with nine lives, but, now that he's actually gone, I'm finding it so hard to accept. I hope he is at peace and watching over us. I am grateful for everything I learned from him. He was truly one of a kind and I miss him already so much.
